A signed jersey is the piece most fans buy first. It hangs on a wall, it reads from across the room, and it says exactly which team you live and die with.

It's also the piece with the most confusion around it. Custom jerseys and licensed jerseys can look nearly identical in a frame, but they aren't the same thing and they aren't worth the same money. A licensed Nike or Mitchell & Ness jersey carries the league tags and the player's real name and number. A custom is a blank stitched to look the part. Both can carry a real signature. Only one of them is what a serious buyer pays up for later.
