Friday Featured Athlete: Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Andre Reed

Andre Reed's football career initially began as a quarterback. He helped lead Dieruff High School to an EPC tri-championship, tying for the championship with Emmanus High School and Whitehall High School.

After attending Kuztown University of Pennsylvania, Reed moved to WR and began to draw attention from NFL scouts. Along with his talent, Reed was praised for his speed and durability as a wide receiver.

Reed was selected in the fourth round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Reed would go on to play 15 consecutive seasons with the Bills. He would become a staple in the Bills offense that saw them go to four Super Bowls. From 1988 to 1994, Reed made seven consecutive Pro Bowls. In 1994, Reed showcased his dynamic skillset by leading the NFL in yards per touch.

As the Bills became one of the most successful teams in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Reed's name appears near the top of NFL records in the Super Bowl. His 27 Super Bowl receptions are second to Jerry Rice (33)Β and his Super Bowl receiving yards are third-most behind Rice and Lynn Swann.

Reed was pivotal in helping the Bills complete one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, dubbed simply "The Comeback." The Bills were trailing 35-3 against the Houston Oilers in a playoff showdown. Reed caught three touchdowns in the second half of the game, helping the Bills complete the largest comeback in NFL history.Β

In 2014, Reed received the highest honor any professional NFL player can receive and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
