Jim Brown led the NFL in rushing in eight of his nine seasons. That is the statistic that ends most arguments about him, and it is not close to the only one.
Cleveland took him sixth overall out of Syracuse in 1957. He was Rookie of the Year, then a three-time NFL MVP, a Pro Bowler in every season he played, and the engine of the 1964 Cleveland Browns championship team, still the last major professional title the city won for more than half a century.
He finished with 12,312 rushing yards and 106 rushing touchdowns at 5.2 yards a carry, and he walked away at 29 while still the best player in football. The Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1971. He died in May 2023.
